Rotational Balance, the Purpose of a Runner’s Arms
Although for non runners, the arms may seem to be trivial in the technique of running, for those who are runners you know that your arms are an essential piece to the puzzle, especially if you want to keep ahead of the pack in a big race. So, when you are running, your arms should never just dangle on your side, and should constantly be kept up and pumping, in order ot give you the motion you need, and in order to help keep your jog or run in stride. Your arms give you the rhythm of the pace you are going, and they help to keep you in motion during a longer run, and help keep you in stride with your actual legs which are carrying you around on the run.
Properly pumping your arms can also help keep you cooler, and help keep your lungs open, making it easier for you to breath more easily, and to keep up the stamina and endurance during a longer outdoor race. So, if you want to go for longer durations, and stay ahead of the other runners out there, you know that the arms are a key piece to the overall running technique.
